In this unit, titled "Foundations and Institutions Challenged (1500-1715)", students explore fundamental changes in Western civilization and their impact on the non-western world.  The eighteenth century is viewed here as an age of optimism and progress.  Students scrutinize humanity's relationships with the natural universe, religious values and institution, and the social, economic and political order.
